True & False question on soil properties and behaviour

 Guys i have brought you some questions which has been asked by any student in chegg. I have answered the question and i would like to share it with you guys too. The question is in the picture form but answer is typed. So do read full solution and share it.

Reason: Expansive and collapsible soils swell on wetting and contract on drying. These expansion and contraction are so high that they cause differential settlement and cracks in the structure built on it.

2. False

Reason : Soil is made up of mineral skeleton, water, air and voids. These constituents together are responsible for carrying the applied load except voids. So we cannot say only mineral skeleton will carry all the applied load.

3. False

Reason : Soil color is not consistent because it changes from soil to soil. Soil color is dependent on the mineral content and amount of organic matter.

4.True

Reason : Stress-strain behaviour of soil is non-linear and irreversible because upon loading or straining the soil specimen it is found that it show increase in stress value upto a certain extent only and then it decreases. Also the soil when unload doesn't follow the same path of loading, it follows some other path while unloading hence it shows there is some residual strain in the soil.

5. True

Reason : Yes it is true. The soil shows the features of its parent rocks because the soils are made from decomposition of rocks and with the passage of time the particles become small and finer. But they don't loose the features of their parent rocks.
