Numerical problem on analysis of gravity dam, Determination of overturning moment

Question on analysis of gravity dam

Q. The section of a concrete gravity dam show. The depth of water at the upstream side is 6m. Neglect hydrostatic uplift and use unit weight of concrete equal to 20 kNm. Coefficient of friction between the base of the dam and the foundation is 0.6. Determine the overturning moment acting against the dam in kN-m.

Solution :

Overturning moment is caused by the water pressure, silt pressure and wave pressure forces.

Now, here in this question force due to water pressure will cause overturning. Since other data about unit weight of silt is not given and also the wave height is not given, hence we will not consider the forces due to silt pressure and wave pressure.

Now to calculate the overturning moment, we have to take the moment of water pressure force about the toe point.

I am attaching the handwritten solution.
